Attendance

Please e-mail SchallenbergerAbsence@sjusd.org (preferred) or call 408-287-6257 when your child is absent and include the following information:

  • Student’s name
  • Teacher
  • Date of absence
  • Reason for absence
  • Your name

Parents have 5 days to excuse their child’s absence. If you have not notified the school within 5 days, the student’s absence will be marked unexcused.

Tardies

Arriving at school on time is important.  When students arrive late, important instructions are missed.

  • Students are considered tardy after the bell rings.
  • All students late to school must report to the office, give the reason for being tardy, and receive a tardy sticker.  If your student is late due to not feeling well, the student will be seen by the Health Clerk before going to class.
  • If a student has a doctors appointment, a note must be provided or the student will have an unexcused tardy.

Truancy

  • Truancy letters are automatically sent to parents from the District Office when their child has had either three unexcused absences or three tardies of more than 30 minutes.
  • If the pattern of truancy continues, students are referred to the School Attendance Review Board (SARB) officer of the school district, and finally to the District Attorney.

Out ill:

Please list specific symptoms your child is experiencing and if they have a fever.
